HOME PURCHASING RIPOFF It has now been a 4 months and we still have not gotten a house. I would say that they were the ones to break the contract

Me and my boyfriend were looking into buying a house. We looked in the newspaper and found a house advertised on land contract. We called the number and talked to Troy. He explained he was from a company called Strait Investing. They specialize in helping people with no credit or bad credit find a house.

We met up with the Troy on Saturday August 2. He had us tell him what kind of house we wanted, what price range, and the location we prefer. The only requirement for them finding us a house was that we would have to pay them the monthly payments for 3-4 years to build our credit, and then they would help us get the home loan through the bank.

Troy told us he could get us a house in 5 weeks, all we had to do was put $1,000 down now and pay $100 a week for five weeks (when he found us a house) and then $500 when we saw the house and approved of it, then another $500 when we moved in. That's a total of $2500 deposit.

We agreed to the contract. He said he would get back to us when he had a couple of houses for us to look at. We never heard from Troy again. After multiple phone calls and messages, we findly got a hold of the CEO and president of the company THOMAS STRAIT.

He asked to meet with us at a gas staion, so he could talk with us about our contract. We met up with him and he explained that Troy didn't work there anymore due to personal problems. To keep our contract in good standing he wanted us to pay $600, because we only paid Troy $900 down when we first signed the contract. We went a head and paid him, and he advised he would find us a house within a month. At this time three weeks had already past. We went ahead and paid him, he wrote us out a receipt and he said he would keep in touch.

We did not hear from him for two weeks, when we called to see how everything was going he said he was still looking for a house and he would call us back.

We called him another 2 weeks later and told him we wanted our money back, because he kept changing the time when he would find us a house. At the beginning they told us 5 weeks, and now it has been 6 weeks with no prospects of houses. He would not let us get our money back. He said we would be breaking the contract and he would keep all of our money for his time of trying to find us a house.

We called Tom again to see how it was going and he said he has not found us a house yet. Tom informed us that a 3 bedroom house was hard to find in our area of preference. Our area of preference was to lve in town our right outside of town.

After a couple of weeks I called the Strait investing office and talked to another guy. He said he put in a couple of bids for us and he waiting to see if any came through.

After that began a long serires of unanswered phone calls and messages to Tom. We have not spoke to Tom since all this has happened. So, we actually gave up hope of a house and getting our money back. Until a lady called from Strait investing about three weeks ago. She said she was filing some papers and came across our file. She didn't understand why nobody had called us or found us a house. My boyfriend told her he was going to get a lawyer involved if Tom did not give us our money back. She said she would have Tom call us back. We never heard anything after that.

At one point he said we broke the contract by not paying him the required down payment, but as you can understand after paying what we did and hearing all the excuses of not being able to find us a house we did not want to give him anymore money until we saw some results. I know that a 3 bedroom house is a very common house to find, so I finally figured out that he was scamming us! It has now been a 4 months and we still have not gotten a house. I would say that they were the ones to break the contract.
