I have a legitimate complaint against a former "employer". His name is Mike Sullivan from www.sullivangroupinc.com

He sells people into working for him for free (commission-only), based on inflated, ridiculous projections, "ALL our recruiters make $100k per year". This is a direct quote, that he sends new recruits.in the past 6 months only ONE person has made any deals at all, and it's nowhere NEAR even $50k. He hires telecommuting recruiters to get clients, manage those clients, and get viable jobs to recruit for. With the technical industry being hit hard in the recent past here in Seattle, resulting in hundreds of thousands of lay-offs, people are almost desperate to do any work at all.

Since I was his Administrative Assistant, it was my job to call new employees, and clients, some of which were long-distance, for which he promised to reimburse, and did. On the occasions he does reimburse, it's frequently a rubber check. At LEAST 4 times in the last 3 months to me and one other person. What kind of lame-ass CEO does that?

He also demanded that I install a second phone line in my home, so I could forward calls made to HIS #800 line to the appropriate recruiters. He didn't have a credit card, so he had ME secure the business line with MY credit card. (Gee, do ya think he knew what he was doing?)

On October 3, I received a bill for $237 and called the phone company. They told me that because I secured the line with my credit card under my social security number, I was responsible for the bill, and they would be starting collections against me if it was not immediately paid in full. Mike Sullivan, I was told, had called the phone company on September 20th and told them that I had nothing to do with his company, and for them to stop sending him MY bill! This was a BUSINESS line for HIM, for which he promised to pay ALL expenses.

He agreed to pay expenses for another recruiter who telecommuted from Colorado, for which she was not paid, as well. I also received (unsolicited) email from someone who wasn't even involved with The Sullivan Group, warning me of yet even more of his employees who claimed they had not been paid.

Of course, Mr. Sullivan realizes that most people will quit in frustration when they haven't made any money after a few months of work. He then keeps the clients those people have acquired, of course, and reaps the benefits of their free labor after those employees have worked their asses off in good faith. Personally, I believe it's not the work of the recruiters, nor the quality of the candidates, but his reputation that is partly the reason why nobody in his company has been successful.

In Mike's OWN words, from his website: "Our service is deeply rooted in old-fashioned values: honesty, ethics, integrity and hard work."

Apparently, the ethics and integrity part doesn't apply to him.
