Automatically subscribes you for magazines

I signed up for a Good Houskeeping sweepstakes, and was automatically subscribed to recieve their magazine with an initial payment of $8.67
I had read the signup page carefully and there was no indication of agreeing to the subscription. Also the site would not let me log in to the subscription account until the next day, when i was able to unsubscribe. The account still showed a outstanding balance of the $8.67.
I have written an email to the customer support for the site, but haven't received a response back yet. I'll add to the post if it gets resolved.
Needless to say i'm pretty dissapointed at the shady tactics employed by what i had thought to be a reputable company.
