Boink magazine
Boink! - Boink LLC Boink Magazine is a scam. They do not pay their authors/models and CANNOT be reached online, by mail or phone

Shops, Products, Services

In May of I responded to an ad in Boink Magazine. They were looking for new authors and models. I had written a short story that I though was perfect for their magazine, so I submitted it to them. I was told by their editor Chris Anderson, that they compensated at a rate of 5 cents per word.

In July of Chris Anderson notified me that my story had been selected for publishing. I filled out the required paperwork.

After that, I didn't hear from Chris again until November. I emailed him asking when the new issue would be out. He responded to me three days later saying "It will definitely be in the next issue which will be out soon."

As soon as the issue came out, I ordered 2 copies of the magazine from the website. Months went by and I never got them, nor any check of payment. I found the tracking number on the website and went to my post office, where they informed me that the package had been misaddressed and sent Parcel Post. Apparently, when you send things Parcel Post, if the address is incorrect they don't make any attempt to contact you— they just send the package back to the warehouse. I tried to contact Boink to get my magazines (and check) but my emails and phone calls all went unanswered.

At first I was very polite, but the longer I was ignored, the more angry I got.

At one point, I was sending an email every day for a month, and still got no response. I have spoken with other Boink authors who told me they, too, hadn't been paid for their work. There was even one author who didn't even KNOW she had been published! No one had bothered to tell her, OR pay her.

As of right now, the phone number for Boink Magazine no longer rings— it simply says "No message has been recorded on this number" on a loop, and then disconnects.

Boink Magazine is a shady and unfair operation. I want my money back for the magazines I never received, and I want to be paid for the work I have done.
