Fake Craigslist Posting Leads To Fraudulent Charges

So, here is our story.in June our apartment was burglarized and our car was stolen. My husband and I decided to look for a new apartment, so I went online to Craigslist.com to try and find something suitable. I stumbled across a great sounding apartment and intended to schedule an appointment to view said apartment the next day. Per the ad's instructions I needed to fill out their application and to bring in a copy of my credit report.

The ad provided a website I could go to retrieve a free copy of my report. So, I followed the link and filled out the requested information. The page I went to had an image of a woman on it holding a sign that said free credit report. Next to the image of the woman was an orange box requesting very specific information including a credit card number, even though the site said that they didn't charge anything for the services they stated that they still needed a copy of a card.

Because our wallets were stolen in the robbery, my little sister graciously allowed me to use hers. Well, I filled out the info, hit complete and was taken to ID Sweep 360.. Not the sign in page but an actual client homepage. I searched the site looking for this free credit report and I didn't find anything, so I closed it out and looked for another site not thinking anything of it.

Well, two months pass and my little sister calls me in tears because they have been charging her for the last few months and they overdrafted her account. She called the company and had them cancel the service and asked for a refund. They refused to give her a refund, so I called them to explain the situation and to ask why they charged her for a service that she didn't receive.

The. *cough* gentleman. Riiight. That answered the call wouldn't let me get a word out. He kept cutting me off, was verbally abusive, rude and completely ridiculous. Because of his behavior I requested to speak with his supervisor after exchanging a few choice words with him (douche bag). He REFUSED to let me speak with his supervisor and told me that there was nothing he could do to help me. He then hung up the phone after very sarcastically telling me to have a wonderful day.

I went online to look up their website and in the process noticed that they already have a fraud alert against their company. On top of that it appears as though this craigslist ad I viewed has been posted in numerous cities with the same result! Luckily when I filled out the app, I was able to save it to my computer so I still have the bogus link they provided (I assume they change links every month or so).

So, I called back the company and told the SAME GUY that they already have a fraud alert and rip off report against their company and that he needs to let me speak with a supervisor. He again refused to allow me to speak with a supervisor and then hung up on me.

I filed a complaint with their local BBB and alerted my sisters credit card company of the fraud. These people are a bunch of scammers. They post fake craigslist postings to lure people to their website, promise to provide a free service, don't provide the promised service and then charge them for NOTHING. They tried to tell me that I received something in the mail that stated their terms and conditions I don't remember ever receiving anything in the mail from these people.
