Verizon Wireless
Refused to refund for service cancelled after trial. Complex billing, didn't notice over a year

We re-subscribed with Verizon Wireless in the Fall of and got free use of GPS mapping for 30 days. I cancelled on or about the due time and thought we were clear. Now find, 18 mos later, they have been billing us all along. Their complex billing form is hard to decipher. Used "data" for feature identification on bill. I figured it was some sort of required connection fee.
I questioned them out of curiosity and found it was the mapping service. I was told I should have cancelled the feature. When I told the rep. That I did, they didn't believe me since they were still billing me and that was evidence that we still had the feature. I was told to go to the local corporate store in town. The store checked the phone and agreed that the feature was not activated on our phones. I called the billing dep't again and was told they could only give us credit for three months.
Their own store verified we hadn't had the service but they still wanted to keep a years worth of charges without providing a service. This should not be "buyer beware" and there is no contractural agreement or legal basis for what they are doing. They are saying " Too bad, we have your money and won't give it back."
Their evasive tactics must work on many customers. They include skipping you around from one person or site to another, handing you some "corporate-speak", an innappropriate amount of time on "hold", talking to you as if you were stupid, denying that what you say is correct, then, when proven wrong, they refuse to admit fault and refuse to honor a common business commitment of refunding charges for undelivered service. This is not an isolated case.
