American Debt Arbitration
Lied about where money was going and then wouldn't refund it!

I signed up with this company after I lost my job and just couldn't make ends meet with the piddly job that I did have. I evaluated my funds and how much I could afford to give a month and they set it up. Originally it was going to be over $500, but someone else reduced it to $300. I was charged the $399 for their enrollment fee, but then had to take a break from it for several months while I tried to get my feet on the ground again. When I started again, they were more than willing to help.

However, I started getting calls from my creditors and told me that no one had contacted them as of yet and I was being charged interest and late fees out the wazoo! To make matters worse, they were threatening lawsuits against me if i didn't start to pay. I called ADA with my concerns and they brushed them off and it was then that I learned that the payments of $300 a month were more of their "ENROLLMENT" fees. The final straw was when I called 3 business days before they were going to draft my account and told them not to. They told me there was nothing they could do. The woman I spoke with was extremely rude and told me that I should have called 2 days ago. I had just found out that I was going to be back to work and wouldn't have the money that i was planning to have.

I told them then that I was done and hung up. 2 days later, the woman calls me back and is arguing with me AGAIN! I was quite upset, told her I wanted to get a refund and was told "no way." Needless to say, I told her that they screwed me over and I was done and slammed the phone down. They didn't take any money from me and they didn't refund me either. I wasted about $1,500 on them! I have found since then that (in 2005) they were ordered to "desist and refrain from engaging in business as a bill payer and prorater unless and until they are licensed or exempt." Nice of the CA government to inform us of that!
