They said I was being considered for a job and needed to supply them with references and that I would be contacted in 24 hours Onlinebased internet

I applied for a job posted online and sent them my resume. Which had my social security number on it. They then sent me a reply stating that the employer was interested in me. I then needed to supply them with references and I would be contacted by them in 24 hours which never happened. I am worried about them having my ss#.
