Advertising Themselves As USDepartment Of Education Deceptive practices being conducted

I, too, have had an off set deducted from my SocSec check for over a year. This organization, ACS Services if headquartered out of Dallas Texas and their office in Greenville Texas is where they conduct collections for the US Department of Education.

They send out letters on U.S. Department of Education Student Financial Assistance with a Department of Education Seal. They are a private company.

When first contacted by them, I tried to get to the bottom of it. First of all... They say that I owe money for my SMU schooling in 1971!

SMU has no record of my still owing money.

One kid I talked with wasn't even alive when I was in school and said he couldn't do anything. I could file paid checks (of course I do not have them) and orginal loan papers... Hmmm... SMU has those, oh no, they haven't anything!

The 1,910. That they say I owe has gone up to over $4,000. Isn't that convenient?

They contacted SS and are taking $74 per month out of my only income.

I tried talking to them today... I was told to send a complaint letter to a post office box in Greenville. The girl I talked to wouldn't even verify that she worked in Greenville... Said it was for security reasons.

A call to the Chamber of Commerce in Greenville got me the info I needed... Which I have included on this site. I do not know what else to do.

If anyone has found an atty that will assist us, that would be great. I am a 68 year old single grandmother: I simply do not have the funds to fight this... And they just arbitrarily stole my money.

Any suggestions would be great!
