Very tricky salespeople, best runaround in the tristate area, the most lopsided contract I've ever seen

I asked my fiance to find a photogropher and or videographer. Since we are trying to save money, he looked into photovideo network which advertised low prices. We never stopped to wonder why the prices were so low.

The salesperson came to meet us and we looked at some samples—albums and dvd (he assumed we had a dvd player for his demo) and talked about packages. He genuinely pressured us into making a decision right there and then. Tired of all the aggravation that goes into a wedding, we caved under the pressure.

But like one other person described, the contract was on a clipboard so we did not see any of the "additional rules" on the back. The blurb under your signature goes from 1 to 13. The reverse of the form goes from 14 to 20, and includes rules about where you can settle any disputes, what they believe the word editing means, what fines they will try to impose on you if you try to cancel etc.

We decided to cancel with them. My fiance signed the contract on Sunday. It's Tuesday. He sent off the notification of rescission this morning via return receipt. However, they have been giving him the run around over the phone. "the manager is on a conference call"; "Oh, the salesman is out today"; "Well, that's not the price that package goes for"

We're not giving up. And we believe that affordable video/photo services are out there. But next time we'll come to rip off report before signing anything!

Oh, and another thing, the deposit was about 1/3 of the total. Compare that with your caterer's initial deposit—1/10 to 1/5. Also, your caterer would agree to refund part or all of your deposit if you cancel within a certain time period allowing him/her to rebook the date right?

THE NEXT DAY, the people are refusing to give us our money back.
