Rip-off Attorney

I hired this attorney to represent me in a case. I was told by his secretary that the first half hour was a free consultation. At our first meeting, I spent a total of 45 minutes with the attorney who said he could take my case and that he would need $500.00 up front for "a couple of hours of lawyering."

He then told me I needed to pay him an additional $45.00 for the $45 minutes that I had just spent with him. When I told him what his secretary had told me, he said she didn't know what she was talking about. So I succumbed as I needed an attorney. So I charged $545.00 on my credit card.

I was to gather information and call back to set up the next appointment. I wasn't able to attend the next meeting, so I sent my mother. He met with her for 15 minutes and basically said he would need another $5,000 up front before he could help me further. When she asked him what he had done for me for the $545.00 he didn't reply.

He just said he wouldn't continue without further money. I have since emailed, mailed and called his office to request an itemization of his charges. It has now been a month. I am now ready to take him to small claims court. He has clearly ripped me off, knowing how hard it would be for me to go against him.
