Unexplained $716.16 Debit Card Charge Before Thanksgiving

This is one company I really want to see go down. Today is the day before Thanksgiving, and I am at the grocery store getting supplies for Thanksgiving dinner. I reach checkout only to see that my debit card is declined due to insufficient funds. I think to myself that this is a simple mistake, so off to the bank I go.
At the bank I find out that DirecTV has charged me $716.16, 8 days after I made my monthly payment of $99.00. The bank helps me fill out dispute forms and tells me that I am way overdrawn. They are changing my card number and tell me not to use my account for 10 days until this issue is resolved. (So now I am completely broke for Thanksgiving.)
I get home, and my husband and I call DirecTV. We are told that they have no file of this transaction and cannot see where they charged me $716.16. (What kind of joke is this?) I then speak with a supervisor who cannot figure it out either. She says it could be that someone used my debit card to pay their bill, tells me to fax a copy of the bank dispute to them, gives me the number, and then hangs up.
Bad customer service. I have been with the company for 5 years and cannot seem to get out of its contract, which is constantly getting reset because of their junk receivers.
Now there will be no Thanksgiving dinner for my family this year thanks to DirecTV, and who knows what other repercussions will stem from this. Why is this company allowed to scam people? It is not fair. If you or I charged someone's credit or debit card, we would be prosecuted for it. Why have they not been?
