Not giving full refund

I purchased 3 items from Staples with the following prices: 34.99,24.99 and 4.99 not including taxes.

I used a coupon for 5.00. (5.00 off for purchase of $20.00 or more).

I returned the 24.99 product which leaves my total purchase at 49.98.

Staples only refunded me $23.00. $2.00 less than the original purchase because of the coupon have to be "pro-rated". I told them that my remaining purchase is still more than $20.00, therefore the coupon was still good for 5.00.

The manager said he can't do anything about it.

How many other customers they rip-off this way?
