No response for installed furnace that's not working properly

Shops, Products, Services

We had a furnace installed 10/07 by an aquaintance, Tim Powell, who has his own company. It was an emergency and money was short. Tim installed a used furnace and redid our duct work. It took him 2 days to complete the job. The furnace was fine last year but when the AC was turned on the furnace leaked. After several phone calls and a hostile return call from Tim's wife, he came out to look at it. We would not finish paying him until he corrected the problem that was his mistake. After it was fixed we sent him a check for payment in full and then received a bill from him for the work he had to correct. Phone calls were attempted and not returned. We, reluctantly, paid for the service call. When we checked the heat for this winter, it did not work. Phone calls were again made. My husband tried to reason with Tim to no avail. He would sell my husband the part for more than he could get it for someplace else but that was the best he could do. My husband replaced the part himself and still it did not work. He called again and asked Tim to come out and look at it. Tim told him that he was busy and the weather was supposed to warm up. My husband explained that we wanted it fixed before it got too cold. We had to change the day of his service call. When my husband called him, he had to leave a message that was not returned. With the help of a friend, the problem was resolved and the furnace worked fine. Now, again, it is not working. We have paid $850 to Tim Powell, plus over $200 in parts that my husband replaced himself. Tim is a very poor businessman who does not follow through on his work or his word. We did not get a warranty on our receipt, but the receipt doesn't say that the furnace he put in was used and over 10 years old either which is what we found out when my husband had to find parts for it. Now it's 48 degrees outside and we have no heat.
