Harrassment at it's finest

I got a call today from RUSS at pentagroup financial. How they got my cell phone number is a mystery... Anyway, they called about a debt from 2003 (which he explained is near the 7-year charge-off), and the harassment level was over the top.
Russ started out being very condesending, questioning how i paid my bills, why i didn't have a checking account, why couldn't I go out and borrow the money, and then threatening to garnish 20% of my wages, which i tried to explain to him were already stretched to the limit in this tight economy. This guy told me that he didn't care if "i was behind a bus being dragged to my death", I needed to pay this bill. I told him i could only afford $50 per month, but would raise it on the months i could afford to...
Well, pissed him off... The amountof the bill went from $2,036 to $10,000 when i would not agree to send Pentagroup $500 per month, using post-dated checks (which i don't have a checking account anyway, so...). He hung up on me after saying "I don't really care... You make up your mind about how much you can pay... It's back uo to $10,000". I called back and spoke with his "supervisor"... She wasn't much better... I told her how much i could pay, and she tried the high pressure $500 per month tactic...
I need help dealing with this mess. The debt is for a vehicle I turned in while not working back in 2002! My understanding was that the auto sold at auction for $7,000. Why in the hell am i being pursued about this now!!!
