Buyer Beware! Rip-off! Rodents! Poor maintenance leading to water damage!

Hi~

I'm new to the area and had everything I owned in Public Storage of Stone Mountain for four weeks. Upon arrival to retrieve my items, they were covered in rat feces and extremely damaged by water. We know they were rats and not mice, because the water damaged caused them to track mud through our things and the paw sizes were huge.

I have several pictures of the damage. Some are attached. Unbelievably, John Hiatt, District Manager for public storage is refusing the claim stating that they have never had any rodent problems before. Well, the home we moved out of in Virginia is in perfect shape and can be proven since I'm selling it and had it inspected. That's proof enough that I couldn't possibly have brought them with me. I just purchased a brand new home here and refuse to bring these infested items into my house. As a result, I've had to purchase all new things.

The other twist in this story is that neither Public Storage, nor my own home owner's insurance covers rodent damage!!! I fully believe that Public Storage should own up to their inadequacy in managing the property and take full responsibility for all damages. Four weeks of storage should NEVER turn out like this.

I believe that there have to be several other people in my situation that were likely treated similarly by this company. It is obvious that the property is not well managed as you will see in the pictures of the extreme gutter clogging which likely caused the water damage to my belongings.

Also, I placed my things there on an advertised special of $1 for the first month. The day I arrived to remove my items I went to pay my account up and had to pay $42 although I had only been there for four weeks.
