Moving Star & US Movers
Ripoff overcharged late delivery property damaged and Florida

Construction & Repair

I recently moved to Missouri with my husband, who was responsible for the move. After receiving quotes from many internet companies, he went with Moving Star because they had a good price and said we would be able to use a credit card for payment. Their quote was arounf $2000. They subcontracted out US Movers. When US Movers finished loading our stuff, they presented the contract which stated that we had to pay cash. After calling both the office of Moving Star and speaking with Julie (who swore she never said that we would be able to use a credit card, but her exact words were " YES, you can use your VISA, the driver will have all the paperwork that you will need"), and then calling US Movers, they agreed to let us pay by credit card.

After agreeing to this, they told us our new total was $4391, this is after all of our property has been loaded. At this time we felt like we were being ripped off.US Movers then stated that we would now be dealing with them only, and not Moving Star.US Movers also stated that our furniture would be delivered in 7-10 days from the pick-up date of 8-12-02.

We arrived at our new apt. On 8-17-02, the earliest our furniture would be delivered would be 8-19, according to the said 7-10 day delivery time. On 8-20, I called US Movers to ask if they had an idea when the furniture was going to be delivered. The foreman, Igal, stated that the furniture was still in California, because, 1: our load was to big for the first truck, and 2: the other truck was having mechanical problems, but would be fixed and leaving the next day. The next day I called and was then told that the furniture would not be leaving California until the 8-23, one day after said delivery time. At this time we sincerely believed that we were never going to see our belongings again.

We did eventually get our furniture 14 days after the original pickup date. When it was delivered, we were still able to pay by credit card, but almost all the peices of big furniture were damaged in some way, and we could see other peoples property being damaged by the people unloading the truck.

I just wanted to send this to inform people of these two companies, so they will not use them and suffer the same financial setback, property damage, and mental distress that me and my husband experienced. Thank You.
