I signed up with Vonage in February, because I was able to save money and keep my existing phone number, and because I was not happy with At&t. I already had internet service from a private provider. I was promised that as long a I had an internet connection, Vonage would work.

So I canceled my At&t phone, but they blocked my phone line. So now at this point I do not have a phone or internet. I made several calls o At&t Vonage and my internet provider, no solution! I essentially am paying $30 a month for voicemail, which I have to access through another phone.

I try to call and cancel, but trying to find a phone on their website is almost impossible, when I do call the account department it is closed for the day. Of course it is, because I work full time and have 4 active kids, so when I finally have time to call it is 9 pm. Plus I really do not want to go back to At&t, but I am not sure what to do at this point.

Finally, a couple of weeks a go I broke down and went back to At&t. I finally had time yesterday to call and cancel Vonage. I explaind that it never worked and I wanted it canceled. The lady (in some other country, I believe), tried to pursuade me to stay. 3 months free, discounted service, etc..

I am completely frustrated at this point - "please just cancel, no other options, just cancel!". The lady in customer service says well mam, because you are canceling before your contract expires, you will be assessed fees and taxes.

She explains I am obligated to these charges because of my contract. What contract? I have never been sent a contract, only an order confirmation. Aren't they obligated to provide that actually works. Isn't that their legal obligation?

I finally said please just cancel. She still explains there will be fees, I told her she can bill me, but I will not pay, I will file a complaint and take her to small claims. She finally gives my a cancellation number.

Later that night I checked my email, I received a cancellation email. It read, that my account had been canceled but, my account was going to be debited $120. My bank was closed at this point, so I thought I would call first thing to put a block on payment. The payment went through at 7 am! The bank said there was nothing that can be done!!! I did not authorize this charge! How can they go into my account and take out what ever amount of money they want?

They are crooks, provide horrible service, and I want my money back!
