Amigo energy ripoff

I happened to look at my Amigo Energy bill for the month (in previous months I couldn't seem to pull it up). When I saw that it was $319 I went into orbit. I'm gone all the time and when I'm here, it is set on 80. When I looked at the charge of. 24 per kilowatt hour, I IMMEDIATELY called Amigo Energy and spoke with someone who put me on hold for about 30 minutes. That gave me a chance to Google Amigo Energy and that's where I found usacomplaints.com and I proceeded to read all the comments.

A supervisor came on the line and informed me that when I signed up on the internet, I signed up for the variable rate. I KNOW I did not do that, as I would never do that, just as I would never sign up for an adjustable mortgage rate. After a few minutes of a heated discussion, he told me that after my year's contract was up, the variable rate kicked in. He contradicted himself since he told me I was always on the variable rate. I was so frustrated and finally told him I was going to report them to the BBB and write a report to usacomplaints.com. He just said "Do what you want." I was going to change companies, and then found out that it would be 15-45 days before the new company's rates would kick in. I called Amigo back and spoke with Gustavo (very nice person) and I signed up for the 6-month FIXED rate of 13.4. This is supposed to take place in 15 days. We'll see. I'm not happy with Amigo since they should have informed everyone of the rate increase, which is ridiculously high, but since I'm back with 13.4, it's a little better. Gustavo said he would speak with his supervisor about crediting my bill. I think they should, since I decided to stay with them. I know most people would have switched and I may be kicking myself. Time will tell, but at least I won't be paying. 24 per kilowatt hour.
