When we purchased a home in Texas last year, the sellers gave us a 1-year warranty policy with American Home Shield (AHS). For the past three months I have been trying to get the company to send me a copy of that policy — but to my old address in Michigan since I am still living here until this Michigan house is sold. The rest of my family is living in the new Texas house.

For months American Home Shield has been phoning me every few weeks asking me to renew the Texas policy, but I keep telling them, I am not renewing until I can read the policy. Once again they promise to send me a copy of the policy to my Michigan address, but it never comes. They phone again for renewal, I say the same thing. I phone them "Where is the policy?", they promise to send one but one never arrives. They can't get a policy in my hands but they can expend the energy to hound me to renew the policy.

Meanwhile, my husband in Texas tells me he has received several copies of the warranty policy there. They don't seem to be able to send a policy to a different mailing address.

Finally last week I told them that we were not going to renew the policy on the Texas house, nor was I going to purchase a policy for the new owner of our Michigan house — all because after three months they still cannot manage to send a copy of the policy to me here in Michigan. The phone representatives were always curteous and responsive, but somewhere the AHS system is broken.

This was not an empty threat. I am done with them. Then, strangely, today I finally received a copy of the policy. Too late! I have no confidence in their customer service if they cannot complete such a simple task.
