Publisher's Business Service / Publisher Direct Service Took advantage of an elderly woman on a limited income for over $1,500 of magazines she wouldn't even want to read

My mother is suffering from dementia. She doesn't even remember how she got involved with this company. She thinks she received a phone call at work and thought she was getting a free magazine subscription. From 2006 she has been charged without her ok for $1,500.00 worth of magazines.

She is almost 80 years old, living in a small apartment on a limited income and is receiving Vogue, Details (a young men's magazine), House Beautiful, and Traveler, none of which she is interested in. She doesn't even know how someone signed her up for these magazines.

After discovering this for her, since taking over her affairs, I spoke with a "Customer Representative" who informed me that there would be no refund since she had a contract because she paid for the magazines. When I requested to speak to a manager, he said he "was" a manager. Never have had a manager answer a customer service call on the first call, have you???

In digging further, the middle man company Publisher Consulting Corporation didn't even have a record of her account because the original address the magazines were sent to was her former place of employment. I can't believe that this company is still taking advantage of people, and that we can't get a refund for subscriptions that have been canceled through the middle man.

I have contacted the magazines and will be filing a report with the BBB and the Attorney General of Nevada. I just can't believe there are people out there who would take advantage of someone like my mother who has never harmed anyone.
