Union Moving And Delivery
Kept changing hourly rate, surprise added expenses, wouldn't take a credit card, won't pay for property they damaged

Shops, Products, Services

After reviewing various moving companies and their rates on the internet, I spoke with Union Moving and Delivery. The website looked professional and stated that they were bonded and insured. I felt good about this. After explaining the number of rooms and types of furniture to the employee, he told me it would take approximately 3-4 hours and they usually charge $110 an hour for 3 men, but if I would book them today, then I'd get a 10% discount. I asked if there were any other expenses I needed to be aware of, since I didn't want any surprises. I asked what would happen if the men worked very slowly, were there any additional costs, etc..., but he assured me there were none. He felt sure that my home could me moved in 5 hours, tops. This employee (I've since discovered was the owner) said he would send me a confirmation # via email. He never did.

Prior to the move, another employee called to confirm the date and time of the move. She confirmed that it would be $125 an hour! I had to spend much time on the phone in order to convince her I had been offered a different rate. She also informed me there was a $50 truck charge that I hadn't been told about.

On the day of the move, the movers asked for my signature telling I would pay in cash. I was dumbfounded, saying I didn't have that much cash available. The lead mover was visibly upset and said he had been informed that I was told I must pay cash. He called his boss (who I later discovered was the first person I talked to on the phone) who said I could write a check, but could not use a credit card. I had to move money from a child's saving's account to cover the check!

The move took twice as long as expected, therefore, costing twice as much as I had expected.

The hardwood floors of the house I moved from were gouged and scratched by the movers. I took pictures and filed paperwork and have sent it to Union Moving. The now say that I needed to purchase extra insurance in order to cover anything over $300 worth in damages. The flooring will be at least $1,000 to fix, minimally. I was never told about this insurance, even though I asked several times about anything else I would need to pay for, for the move.

I dealt with the owner of the business in all the most important dealings of the move. He never identified himself as the owner.
The movers, book-keepers, and secretaries working at the company are far more professional than the owner himself.
Steer clear of this moving company!
