Kenny Ross
Power train warranty

Shops, Products, Services

I bought a 2003 trailblazer from kenny ross in nov. Of 2002. It came with a dealer power train warranty of 100 month, 100,000 miles.in late april I took it back to kenny ross because of loud engine noise. They told me it spun a bearing and the engine would need replaced. I said go ahead and do it, it should be covered under my power train warranty. They told me that they would not honor the warranty, because they didn't trust my maintenance records. I do my own oil changes and any other preventive maintenance that I can. I also record everything in the manual as they suggest. They manual has a schedule for preventive maintenance, which I followed and logged. This wasn't good enough for them. The warranty agreement that I signed does not say that you can't do your own maintenance. It suggests using the dealer garage, but literally states that you don't have to as long as you keep records. I can provide a copy of the agreement if nec. They since have changed the agreement. It's much more detailed and restricted, so they must choose not to honor this warranty often and had to rewrite the agreement to cover themselves. I don't blame them for that, but the bottom line is I did nothing to void the agreement that I signed. If it was too vague for their liking, that's not my fault. I ended up letting them do the work to my truck, because it was already there. I was afraid to drive it anywhere else, because I didn't want to through a rod. They found a used engine with 38,000 miles for $1500 and said labor would be $1000. I found my own used engine with 39,000 miles, a 1 year warranty, and shipped to their door, for $712. I must be a magician. Why could I find such a good deal but a garage couldn't? The engine that I found was even closer to them than the one they found. So, after 2 weeks of fighting with them and 1 week of repair, i finally got my trailblazer back. I picked it up on fri. May 16, and ran it all weekend. Monday on my way home from work it broke down. I tried to drive back to Kenny Ross, but couldn't make it. They sent a flatbed to pick it up. I got a call later that afternoon. They said a ground wire was broken. They fixed it at no cost to me and a free tow.in the meantime my wife had to miss work that day, which cost us about $150. Nothing is free.in the end I'm out $2200 (would have been $3000 if I didn't find my own engine) plus time lost at work because of breakdowns. I should have only paid a $200 deductible to invoke my warranty. I just don't understand how they can advertise this warranty to get you in the door, but when it comes time to honor it, they can refuse. I felt they would've found a reason to decline the warranty even if I would've taken it to their garage for all oil changes, etc. The only thing they did for me was give me a free loner car, but that's a drop in the bucket when I had to dish out $2200 instead of a $200 deductible. They did try to get GM to cover the cost. GM said they would put a brand new engine in for $6000 and I would have paid half. It just didn't make sense to me to put a new engine something with 83,000 miles on it. Plus I plan on trading it in very soon, but at least GM was willing to work with me a little. Why was GM willing to help out when it was Kenny Ross who wouldn't honor their own dealer warranty? I would like to find out how many people have tried to use this warranty and were turned away.
