Yet another victim

I've pretty much had perfect credit all my life. Last July our credit scores were right around 820. Yes, we spend only what we can afford and always pay our bills on time. Without fail.

Sometime between then and now, we have been worked over but good by Calvary trying to collect a bad debt for Sprint. My credit score has dropped about 15 points and my husband's over 100 points. We found out about this the other day when we learned we no longer qualified for some types of loans because of our credit scores. This is really hurting us because we had counted on getting a loan.

Here's the worst part. We've never had any kind of phone service from Sprint. Ever. Several years ago, we got a letter from these Calvary people and we wrote back and told them they had made a mistake because we had no phone service from Sprint. Several months later, another letter. This time I called them and said we'd never had any kind of telephone service from Sprint. Then nothing for a long time. We assumed they had gone on to find the correct debtor. Then last week we learned they had put the charge off on our credit report.

I don't accept the role of victim easily and I don't like being anyone's 'mark'. So far, I have contacted a friend who is an attorney, filed a report against Sprint and Calvary with the BBB, disputed the chargeoff with the credit reporting agencies, and I have my complaint ready to file with the Minnesota Attorney General's office. This is costing me time and money. Why should I pay for their mistakes?

So far, Sprint has replied to my BBB complaint. A nice young woman says she will get to the bottom of this. We shall see. It would be unfair at this point to say anything negative about her. She has sent me an email and called me on the phone. I sent her a confirming email. All quite civil and kind. Now we'll see what she does.

I will update this report when I get more information.
