Misrepresentation by Vonage sales personnel & illegal withdrawal of money from my checking account with Chase Bank

Received flier in mail from Vonage 2/28/08 to which I replied by calling their toll-free number.
Spoke to their sales people and was promised great, unlimited phone service to USA, Europe and Russia for all inclusive monthly fee of $49.95.

After agreeing to this offer by 'phone and providing Vonage with my debit card number and home phone number, the very next day I discovered my home phone had been disconnected and checking a/c debited for over $60 without my authorization.

When I called Vonage and protested (after spending more than three hours to be connected to their complaints dept.) and told them I had been with Verizon for over thirty years and certainly did not want to be without phone service prior to being connected with Vonage, I was told I'd have to wait until March 11.

I demanded my money back and cancelled my ties to Vonage.
Now I'll have to wait until March 20 before Verizon can return my previous service with them.
Why scam artists like Vonage are allowed to do this to customers is beyond me.
