They miscounted guests, threatened to expel us, call the police, then illegally debited "the overage" charge

I signed a contract with Lake House for my wedding reception to be held on March 26. My now husband being in Marine training, we had to change the date to March 5. With the first contract I paid a deposit as well as left my debit card number to guarantee the remaining balance. We cancelled the first contract when we made the second. When we made the second contract I did not leave my debit card number, nor were we asked to, since we lowered the number of expected guests.

They informed me during the reception that there were more guests than paid for in the second contract and they needed an additional payment. We disagreed, having our own count. They asked me if we left a credit card on file to pay for the additional charges. We told them we did not, and they were not authorized to charge me for any payments.

They said that if we didn't pay the extra amount now that they would call the police. They locked the dining room doors to prevent my guests from eating any more food, and even told the DJ that we hired to stop playing. We finished our toast then left.

I found out on March 18, that they had obtained my debit card number from the first contract and withdrew the disputed funds without my permission or authorization. This seems illegal to me, at the least they are unauthorized and should not have been withdrawn.

We have tried to contact the owner, Lawrence Marino, several times, leaving messages and being assured he would return our calls. On Friday March 18, we were told that in their eyes this matter was closed, and that any further communications about this we needed to contact their attorney. They seem unwilling to even discuss the matter with us.
