Served With Lawsuit Over Debt I Do Not Recognize

I was served with a Law suit in the last few days by Asset Acceptance. Now that I have read some of the other posting it seems that mine is following the usual path. I need some assistance with dealing with this as I have no legal knowledge. First I have never had any dealing with this company, I assume that it is because of an old debt. I have no way of knowing when the last payment was if this is a real debt. Please I need any assistance possible with defending myself from this company. If anyone can advise me of the steps that I should take I would be really thankful. Please ask any questions and I will try and answer with as much information as I have to get the best advice possible.
