Deducted money from my checking account without authorization

A little over a year ago, I received a promotional offer to use my Delta Airlines miles to purchase magazine subscriptions, so I went ahead and checked off a few boxes to purchase some magazine subscriptions with my miles. Now, this week I noticed two unauthorized and unrecognized deductions from my checking account. A call to my bank indicated that these were related to two magazines that I had ordered. A call into the magazines directed me to "Newsub" which I have since found out is some middle-man type organization. After calling Newsub, I was told I called the wrong department and I had to call the dept. That handles airline miles.

When I finally reached the correct department, I informed them that I had NOT authorized deductions from my checking account and wanted these charges reversed. The guy I spoke with tried to "explain" the situation and argue that this is how these subscriptions worked. I cut him off and informed him that since I did not authorize direct deductions from my account, I expected my money to be refunded or I would be disputing the charge with my bank. I was surprised, but he said he would reverse the charges and gave me a confirmation # when asked. I'll be watching for the reversal of charges, but it concerns me I never gave these people my bank account or routing # or authorized them to deduct money from my account.
