Admirable Home Improvements John Dishaw
Roofing job started, never finished, roofer paid

John Dishaw, owner of Admirable Home Improvements, located in the Syracuse, NY area, bid on a roofing job and was awarded that job. He started the job in June with the promise it would be a 1 or 2 day job. Now in Octobers end it is yet to be completed. Bundles of shingles remain on the roof and on the ground. One side is shingled, other is not. Other job materials remain on the ground as well.

On the second morning of the job, John asked about being paid. John had already purchased the materials for the job and had done work for me before that I was satisfied with. Knowing that I would not be able to be around at the end of the day when he would finish up I thought it would be considerate of me to pay him before I left for the day. Given my previous experience with him I was comfortable doing that. I went to the bank and got a check for him, returned and gave it to him. It would appear that as soon as I left that day after paying him, he left and has not returned to finish the job.

Since then he has promised at least 20 times to finish the job up "that day", or "this week", even claiming on several occasions that he was on his way over to my place right then to finish it up, but of course never showed.

I see John has one other complaint filed with the BBB of Syracuse for a "service" related problem just this summer. I actually went to his house and spoke with his wife before persuing a formal complaint against him to make sure he wasn't a victim of some problem beyond his control that would prevent him from finishing this work (like illness), but was assured there is nothing "wrong" with him.

I wonder how many others have been ripped off by him now but don't know what to do about it either.
