Free phone ripoff

I had a bag phone that we used in only one vehicle. Alltel called several times wanting me to get rid of the phone because of some so called 911 problem. After resisting for a while, they sucked me in with an offer for a "free" phone.

When the phone arrived, I found out that we would be charged $100, and I would have to apply for a refund. When the bill came it was $105, but I thought I could stand $5.

I had just read an article on how some companies make it hard to get a refund just so you will give up. Since I was smelling a rat, I made sure everything required was included.

After about a month, I received a postcard saying I didn't include the original bill. I sent a photocopy this time since I had already sent the original bill.

After waiting from June to late August, I called Alltel. The rep was very rude and said I should wait longer to call back. I'm still waiting for my money that Alltel has had since May.

I have called a US Senator, and been told that Alltel has a lobbyist who comes to their office. They asked me to try once more and then call them and report what I was told this time. I will call Alltel again, but don't expect any results.

I plan to call our state's attorney general consumer fraud division. I'm also going to call my state representative and see if they lobby on the state level. I suggest we all do this. Maybe they will understand that kind of pressure.

I did make copies of everything. One more thing. The phone doesn't always shut off, and it doesn't get as good as reception as the old one. Of course, I was told it would work better, but we can't call from areas that our old phone worked in.
