2 year commitment

Well I guess I can be added to the list of consumers to be ripped off by Directv's sneaky practices. I had directv's DVR service for about 2 years when my DVR started to freeze up while watching a recorded program. When I called for technical service the tech didnt seem suprised to hear of my problems with their equipment, apparently after reading other postings on this site it appears to happen quite frequently. The tech was very kind and told me they would repace the dvr with new one and no more was said and absolutely nothing about a new 2 year commitment. So I accepted his offer and in less than a week I had my new dvr. I hooked it up and called to have it activated and again the service rep was very helpful in getting me going and again said nothing of a new 2 year commitment from the date of activation.
After about a week I started to wonder about my service and if I was still under the commitement I agreed to when I originally signed up for service. I emailed them to ask this question and got a response that said when I activated their replacement dvr I was now the lucky owner of a new 2 year commitment.

This infuriated me and I decided I did not want directv's expensive service for 2 years and decided to cancel my service. They informed me I would have to pay up to a $300 early termination fee. I said no way and canceled anyway. A week later I noticed a $287 charge to the credit card I had on my account with dtv. They did this without my consent.

Buyer beware, do not subscribe to directv. They are very sneaky and expensive, and their equipment is garbage. I dont know if I will ever get this money back but I have filed it with my credit card company and they are looking in to it. The little people dont have a chance disputing these kind of practices with large companies like dtv. Buyer beware!!!
