Ripoff Scamming by charging your phone bill

My father's home phone bill has been getting charged $14.95 for residential email enhancements. His bill has always been paid through auto-deduct since he's been in a nursing home (for the past 4 years). He cancelled residential phone service Aug 1. The AT&T rep informed him of a recurring monthly charge from an outside company. Since the FCC allows outside companies to bill for services and be paid for those services through AT&T and local phone companies, it was out of was out of their hands. They had the same information as I did, the toll free number.

I called to find out that I had allegedly signed up for this service in December. I don't even live with my father and surely would not sign up for enhanced email because one would need a computer for that and there was not one at my father's house that he would use. He's 73 and in a wheelchair, and has not lived in that house since 2003.

I requested to hear a voice recording or to see some documentation as proof that I signed up. I have yet to receive any of this information.

Check your phone bills for unsolicited charges. Keep a close watch on the statements, don't assume just because you do auto-deduct that you are safe from being scammed.

I have contacted the FCC and am waiting for a reply from ESBI.
