Ripoff does not care about what is right won't reimburse valid claim

I requested service for an AC unit that stopped working. The technician that American Home Shield sent told AHS that the reason for the failure was because we failed to maintain the unit. After he spoke with AHS he offered to do the work directly and quoted $2,800 to fix the problem.

I became suspicious so I called another technician, who I paid directly, for a second opinion. He agreed that the compressor was bad and needed to be replaced but he disagreed that it was a result of poor maintenance because this was a 5 year old unit and he had checked it previously and saw that it was well maintained (filters changed regularly, etc). He gave me 3 choices ranging from $1,200 to replace the compressor (parts and labor) to $7,000 (new more efficient unit).

I called York who agreed to replace the compressor and other parts on warranty and also referred me to their authorized technician.in the end I spent $507 to put in the new compressor and to repair what the AHS technician also said was a leak in the freon line.

I called AHS to tell them what happened and to ask if they would reimburse me but the denial department denied my request outright saying it was over 30 days from the time I placed the claim and that I did not get a second opinion from a technician of their choice. The reason why that did not happen is because they could not find anyone since they have a short list of companies that work for them. They did not give me any reason why they did not answer an email I sent immediately after their technician visited me. I have cancelled my coverage but I am still very upset over the fact that they do not listen to reason even if the facts clearly state that they should be covering this claim. With all the complaints about this company I am amazed that they continue to operate and continue to treat their customers this way.
