False Billing, Will not return calls, Breach of Contract ripoff

We contracted with Perkins to for our move from Washington DC to San Diego CA. Our agreed upon price was to be $0.60 per pound moved. We were told numerous times in writing and over the phone that the final price was to be based on the final weight of our boxes and furniture. The company stated that they had a certified scale that they would use and before delivery, they would send us the final price. We paid 50% of the estimate with our credit card at the time of pickup and the remaining balance with a cashier's check upon delivery.

Upon delivery, the movers did not have the weight certificate, but required us to pay the balance of the estimated bill before they would release our items. On the day of delivery, we contacted the company and they said they would get us a certified weight immediately and adjust our bill as necessary.

We never received a certificate with the weight of our goods despite repeated e-mails stating that we would receive one by the close of the business day. Since that point, calls and e-mails to the company have gone unanswered and unreturned and the phone number listed has been disconnected.

The Better Business Bureau of Washington DC, my father-in-law and I have tried to resolve this matter with the company without success. They do not return any phone calls, e-mails or faxes and the BBB of Washington DC has suggested that we contact an attorney or the state office of consumer affairs.
