Columbia Gas charged me after I disconnected service. Ripoff

November of 05 I was moving into a new place that was all electric. I called Columbia Gas to have my service canceled. I gave them my new address so they could send my final bill. They sent my bill and I paid it. And I didn't hear from them again, so I figured everything was normal. Then I had to move again, and this new place has gas. So I called them to have it turned back on. But was told I owe about $130. I said there's no way, I paid the final bill after I canceled. I was told (believe it or not) that I did not cancel my service, it was shut off due to NON-PAYMENT! Bull! They said they shut it off in January because I had not paid in about 2 months. When I left that apartment I turned the heater off (it was one of those wall heaters). So there should not have been any gas usage what-so-ever in that apartment.
Also they have no record of me calling to cancel or of sending my final bill to my new place.

They have also screwed me another time. Years back I had the gas turned on and they wanted a HUGE deposit because I was a new customer. They actually told me it was because I was new. Thing was... I wasn't a new customer. Yet they had no record of me (surprising huh?). I was told to just pay the deposit and if I could find a copy of my old bill to fax it to them and they would refund the difference or credit my account, whichever I preferred. So I found an old bill and faxed it. No refund... No credit. I called to ask about it and was told they couldn't refund it because I had to pay a deposit. I told them that I was aware the deposit had to be paid but that the reason it was so high because I was a new customer... Which I wasn't. They pretty much told me that was a lie and no one told me that.in the end the money went towards my bill anyways, so I didn't lose it. But the fact is I was lied to.
