The Eugene Oregon Register-Guard
The Customer is either wrong or ignored Ripoff

My wife and I have received the Register-Guard at our home in Veneta Oregon for several years. During those years, I requested and recieved a Newspaper box, of which I inquired as to the rules regarding it's installation.

I complied with these self same rules, and even asked the delivery supervisor, if where I located it, was out of bounds or unreasonable. At the time it wasn't considered to be so.

I located it upon an armrest upon my front deck porch. Why there? Because as a Disabled Veteran, bending over, or walking very far tends to be rather painful for me.

And for most of these years, only an occasional mistake was made concerning the paper's delivery. Usually it was the excuse of: I didn't see it there. Where upon the delivery started to be made in the appropriate spot.

A month ago, we got ourselves a new deliverer. This strapping young lad insisted upon throwing the newspaper into my rose bushes, or into some ground cover, or onto the lawn, but only occasionally close to the porch.

I asked the young man, why he didn't deliver the paper into the newspaper box. His reply was one of "It's too far from the street, and my supervisor said I don't have to deliver it there if it's too far."

A complaint to the supervisor, resulted in the paper being delivered to the box. Along with a couple instances of my rose bushes being vandalized by the young man. Other things occured, but I didn't see the young man do them, and thus they could have been done by someone else.

Then a week ago, the paper stopped being delivered to the box, and started being delivered in the usual painful for me to access spots.

After several days of this, another call to the delivery supervisor results in the supervisor telling us that the deliverer in question claims to have tripped somewhere on the driveway. And she claims that she herself had tripped on our driveway in the past. (But only NOW makes the complaint).

We are informed that if we wish to continue getting the paper into the box we will have to either relocate the box, or do without.

My complaint revolves around their attitude. Every other deliverer was able to deliver to the box without any major problem, for years. When we decide to press the issue, their attitude becomes one of: "If you want to continue to pay for our services, you're gonna have to put up with our S*T". Or that is the attitude we perceive it to be.

We promptly ended our subscription. Which in normal channels would've attracted attention from someone in sales. Apparently not this time. A written complaint to their folks at the company website, also doesn't provoke any kind of response, or inquiry as to why a customer no longer subscribes.

So, this occurs, a complaint entry. If anything else, we will see if the Portland Oregonian has as many attitude problems as the Register Guard does. And yes, I plan to ask the delivery supervisor if there are any problems with locating the newpaper box to my porch.
