Disconnect service - Get threatened with COLLECTION

2 weeks ago I canceled my Nextel cell phone service after 6 continued years. I NEVER had one late payment. Never requested a credit for CONSTANT and CONSISTENT disconnects and dropped calls. Today I received a letter attached to an email from Sprint: "COLLECTION AGENCY ALERT!".

Basically the letter WARNS me that I need to call them to clearup my PAST DUE account and have my
account "placed with a collection agency within the next seven days". They also state that "an early termination fee may apply", "account may be classified as 'bad debt'" and "be reported to three national credit bureaus as past due".

I haven't even received my final bill yet! I won't bore you with the fiasco I went through calling their customer service department but basically they said when " I do receive my final bill and make payment, it will not go to collection until June 11th", quite different than what the letter stated, although June 11th would still be earlier than my normal monthly bill payment date.

I suppose the moral of the story is that if YOU DISCONNECT WITH SPRINT/NEXTEL they'll try to get even by threatening you.

It is hard to believe how such a large company can be so unscrupulous to threaten someones financial stability, even if it's totally unjustified. They are just taking advantage of our need to protect our credit rating, but then again, from many of the accounts I have read, Nextel has lost nearly a million subscribers, so I guess they are getting what they deserve.

I hope now that Sprint enjoys all the success which they deserve too.
