ARS Service, ARS Service Heating Unit Service Department

We placed a service call to Americas Home Shield Warranty company for non-functioning Heating unit for 2nd floor of our house. They send ARS Service (713-777-7777) person to fix it. This person came and went into the attic. I went along with him to see what is he doing.

First thing he did is Shake (yes actuall Shake the unit very heavily) and pull the tray beneath the heating unit. Natually this shaking result into some rust fallen from the unit inside the tray. He showed me the rust and said he cannot do anything on this unit as he needs to do service before touching this unit. And instantaneously gave me the quote of $149 for service after which he will be willing to look into the problem.

I said wait a minute, can you atleast check what the problem is before selling your service. He said NO HE CANNOT DO THAT because of LIABILITY issue. I was so pi*ed that he is not doing his job in first place and asking for $150 for something else that we might not need.

I immediately contacted Americas's Home Shield Guys and they said they cannot do anything if service guys says he cannot do anything until he service the unit. Later on I figure out that this is a big racket to get more money out from the customer just because ARS Service (big company) do not make much money out of this miscellaneous services. And plus they get some sort of kick back for saving money for this BIG warranty companies.
