Ripoff threaten collection proceedure on a 17 year old debt and sent many recorded messages to my home

It started 2 weeks ago when I would come home and there would be 2 messages a day saying this is not a sales call I have important information etc. Etc. I finally called the number and they told me they were looking for me and that I have an outstanding debt with a department store. I told them first that the calls are to stop immediately, which they did.

I have no debt as all my credit card bills are paid in full when received. I finally received a notice in the mail from TruLogic and the account their talking about is 17 years old. They told me I had to prove that I paid this account and I told them I could not as I would not have any records at all from that long ago.

They were very un-sympathetic and I found to be quite rude as they said I need a lawyer and a power of attorney to help me with this situation. They said "So are you paying this bill?" I told them NO is so many words because I have no recollection of this what so ever because it was 17 years ago, then I hung up on them.
