Attempting to collect on a Verizon phone bill from 1999 ripoff

Received two letters from AFNI, indicating I owed $139.57 an $312.84 for phone services at an address that I never put a phone in. Even at that time I did stay with a friends relative at the place for about 4 weeks. The phone was in there name an I never installed one at that address. So how does one get them to refrain from bothering me on these two charges that I think belong to the friends relatives?

I have asked for any proof of my oweing these sums, an did get back a computer generated phone bill, but it does not have GTE/Verizons logo's on them, just a notation that these were from the GTE services at this time. I did ask for beginning service an ending, but this was not provided.
