I was sold the idea of getting real estate leads in a certian area of the county where I work. I agreed to the rate, which was expensive, and agreed to sign up for an entire year. I later decided that I did not want to participate in this kind of lead generation service, so I called back the next morning to see if I could cancel the contract. They said since I was already signed up (i.E. They already had my CC number) I could not back out of the contract. I argued with the salesman and he finally transferred me to a 'supervisor' and we negotiated for 99.00 per month for the first three months and if I liked it, we would renegotiate for the remainder of the contract. We agreed that we would talk on October 11th.

I realized in the course of the three months that this wa a service that I would not get any leads from, let alone an actual sale. Since the people that went onto the web site were just interested in how much their house was worth and were basically using the web site for a free opinion. I saw people that I gave home values to, list with other agents. I know that as a real estate agent, I won't get all the listings that I go on appointments for, but they were telling me that I would make so much and get this many leads, and on and on.

I called back in the middle of October, knowing that I had to renegotiate by the November billing, or I would get socked for the full price in November and moving forward from there. So I called and spoke to my contact person and explained what I wanted to do. He said that he would call me back by the end of the week. Needless to say, that didn't happen, so I called him about 6 times during the rest of the month of October. Whenever anyone calls into the customer service line, the calls are screened, so I was always placed into the voice mail. I was finally to speak with him after the first of November, so I was charged for the month. When I did speak with him, he finally agreed to let me out of the contract for a lesser amount that I would have had to pay normally, which was at least 6 months of the contract. I thought that this was too good to be true, but I was so glad to be done with them that I agreed to the final charge.

In my next credit card bill for the month of November, I saw a charge for what I thought was the amount of the cancellation fee. Then in the December billing, I saw another charge for almost 500.00. I called them up and they said that since I cancelled my account on the 9th of November, I was charged for the entire month. I rebutted by saying that I was trying to get a hold of my contact person and he was either never available, did not return my calls, or said that he would call me back.

I said that I was going to call my credit card and ask them if I could do anything about it. The terse individual from the house values collection and cancellation depatment said that if the fee was not paid by the company, then the amount would go to a third party collection agency. So not only do they have my credit card on file, they have the ability to damage my credit if I decide to do anything about the charges that were placed on my credit card.
