Pretended they were our copier service and that they were giving us the courtesy of offering a toner cartridge at the old price before it went up. Sent fax for "order" to go through. Ripoff

Shops, Products, Services

The other day, I received a call from "my Canon Copier Representative" to let me know that they were delayed in informing our company of a price increase in this year's toners. The "delay", they said, was "due to problems with their computers."

In order to accommodate for this "mistake", they said they had "put aside a toner cartridge at the old, lower price ($619)" rather than the new price that was raised $75 as of December. The man made it sound like we had already PLACED the order and that it was simply that we would pay the original price until the year's end.

After agreeing, I was told I would get another call to confirm the price change. A few minutes later, I did receive a call from someone who now said that she wanted to "confirm my order" — I said, "Wait a second, what do you mean "order"?" (I hadn't placed any order — they said there was already an order placed long ago...). Her response was that it was simply for the cartridge at the lower price, telling me that she would send a fax over and I should sign it and send it back.

An hour or so passed, and not having returned the fax yet, I received a call urging me to "sign and send the fax back as soon as possible" so that they could "gaurantee the lowest price cartridge through the end of the year". Without looking too closely, I signed the cover sheet they sent (by the way, the knew ALL about our address at the office here and my direct phone number) and sent it back to them.

Shortly thereafter, I found out from someone in the office here that it was a scam. I immediately sent back a fax saying to cancel and nullify my "order", and I have now left two voice messages on the number they provide which, of course, is only a voice message. I highly doubt there is anyone to contact about this, but I did not give them any credit card information over the phone, so as far as I am concerned, they will not be receiving any payment.

Please share if you have had a similar experience and were able to contact someone to make sure you didn't get charged!

Thanks,
