My best friend took my jewelry to sell it for me since my husband passed away it was hard for me to do. I thought she was just going to take my diamond earrings, 2 necklaces and a bracelet that I had. I had my wedding ring sitting out with the other jewelry because I had been cleaning them the night before. I put mine and my friends earrings behind the ring in the box so I wouldn't lose them and two other rings I was not planning on selling I put in a bag behind the necklaces. She was not aware I had done this and I was sleeping when she took them in that day. She went to this jeweler who was a friend of a friend of a friend. He looked at the ring, necklaces and bracelet and told her he would give her $750 for all of them. The ring alone was worth over $10,000 but he told her the clarity was bad. This is a 1.5 carat H&A diamond. She was young and he knew she didn't know anything about what they were worth because he asked her. She accepted his offer and left the jewelry there. When she got back and told me I asked about the earrings. She was shocked that they were in the box and said she didn't know. We called immediately to be told them the earrings and two rings were behind the other jewelry. They said they had not found them and threw away the boxes but we could look thought the dumpster if we wanted. My friend went back and searched through the dumpster that she said was full. She did not find the boxes and they were distinctive boxes that would be recognized. We have called again and other than being surprised the trash was still full when we looked they were not helpful. I admit that they may not have been aware that there was other jewelry in the boxes when they threw them away but that is highly unlikely. When the ring was not in the box it rattled because the earrings were loose and the necklace didn't sit flat because my other rings were behind it. And what person would not look in the dumpster immediately if they knew there were a pair of 2.5 Carat and 1 Carat diamond earrings and two other diamond rings. The front desk worker had seen the earrings already when they were brought in prior to them being purchased. The owner was not in at the time so she took them back another day. I was very upset when I found out about my ring and wanted it back. Both the jeweler and the front desk worker were aware that they were from my deceased husband but they still were not cooperative and not willing to sell it back. Altogether this jeweler has over $20,000 of my jewelry for $750 dollars. Did I mention the $750 was paid in cash and no receipt was given. I thought this was a little odd for a jewelry store. They are dishonest and can not be trusted with jewelry.
