Qwest
Ripoff billed me 5 months late and added surprise charges to total bill

Shops, Products, Services

I have never experienced such shady, duplicitous dealings with a company before. I signed up for a Qwest international long distance plan over the phone. The sales rep told me the price my calls would be and I agreed to the terms. I was told it would take a month for the first charges to register on my bill. The first month went by with no charges. The second month went by and no charges were reflected on my bill. When the third month came and my bill still did not reflect my long distance international charges, I called Qwest. I was told over the phone that it would take 2 MONTHS for my long distance charges to be reflected on my bill. The woman could not tell me what my current long distance charges equaled yet. The next month, still no charges. I continued making my long distance calls. Finally, during the fifth month of no charges, I looked my bill up online and saw that I was charged almost $2600 in long distance calls.

This was almost 3 times the amount I had expected to be charged when my bill finally came in. I called Qwest immediately to find out why my bill was so high. Apparently I had been charged 25 cents a minute to calls terminating to a cell phone, instead of the 8 cents a minute I was told they would be. I told the phone assistant that I was not told calls going to a cell phone would be THREE TIMES THE AMOUNT I was quoted. She told me I should have asked. I have spoken to Qwest for hours about this, and finally they told me they would send my complaint to a billing department that handles disputes like mine, and in the meantime I should pay the minumum charges without the long distance. I told them I was not going to pay them anything until I had a physical paper bill mailed to me outling all the calls I had made terminating to a land line and mobile phone. This was around the end of August.

Today, September 22, I received my bill. It was almost $3,000 and the mobile phone charges were still charged at 25 cents a minute instead of 8 cents a minute. Also, I would like to add, I have 2 days to pay this bill before I acquire late charges and a 10% interest charge tacked onto my total that MAY OR MAY NOT be added to my next bill.

Had I received my bill when I was supposed to, I would have been aware of their sneaky higher mobile phone charges and could have chosen whether or not I would have made those long distance calls to a cell phone.

All that I want is to be given my proper bill. Not one that is 3 times the amount I was led to believe that I would owe. This company is sleazy as can be. And I don't know what to do about it.
