Unreliable fringy service, huge bill Ripoff

In May I signed a contract with T-Mobile for a family cell phone plan because they were $10 cheaper per phone per month. The salesman checked his computer and assured me that I would have coverage at my home. He said the phones would roam for free to any available cell tower if T-Mobile did not provide coverage where I was.

Wow, Cingular coverage for $30 less per month. How can you go wrong? Believe me, you can!

We had trouble talking from the start. Sometimes the cell phone reached my wife or daughter, sometimes it didn't. My wife leaves her phone out in the car, and my daughter only answers her phone when she feels like it. It was difficult to separate the people factor from the coverage factor. I should have noticed that the phones showed one bar only on the East side of the second floor of the house. No bars registered elsewhere in the house. The coverage was definitely fringy.

I talked with customer service and tried to be released from the contract based on the simple fact that the phones did not work half the time. He blamed the problems on the siding on my house and actually, really, really, suggested that I step outside to place calls. I asked him how was I to receive calls? Should I sit out on my lawn all day? Then he admitted that my area is scheduled for improvements and tried to give me a phone number that I could call to learn when my area was to be upgraded. I told him I was paying the full bill now, and I wanted full service now. But no can do.

Switched to Cingular. Got five bars now, and can talk to wife and daughter when they cooperate. Paid $868 to T-Mobile for installation, month's service, and early termination fees. Got ripped off.
