My husband and I received an ASPIRE VISA card offer in the mail. When we got our VISA card we immediately called to activate it and were charged the activation fee of $29.00. We were told it would be active in 5 business days. Each day we got a different story and a different time frame. One service Rep told me to quit calling and hung up on me.

At 25 business days and counting, we still did not have an active card, but the $29 has been taken from our account and we have been charged a late fee for not making a payment in the month of May on a $0 balance and an nonactive card. After speaking with several ASPIRE customer service Reps each day, most of whom where impossible to understand, we finally reached the consumer fraud division.

They apologized, credited out account for the confusion and activated our card. A day later they charged us another late fee that cancelled out the credit and left us owing an additional $10. Two weeks later they cancelled our card and said that it was because we had asked them to cease calling us, that we had requested that they close the account only 9 days after we finally got it openand they had no way to reach us. We had been told twice when the card was declined that they were just working through the reactivation process.

We worked our way through customer service for 2 weeks being told that it was an error, that we needed to fax my husband drivers license and a written request to reactivate the account. We did so 6 different times each time speaking with yet another impossible to understand Rep. Each time being given a different story and being told we need to make more payments. We have made a total of $85 in this two week time frame based upon these conversations. Today a Rep told me that they had no intention of reopening the account as there had been a late fee of $35 dollars charged in May (the one that was waived) and it was never paid, so they closed the account. I was not rude and asked to speak with a supervisor.

I explained the situation again and was told (in between a thick foreign accent and the smacking of chewing gum) " This is the way it is Maam. We are not going to reopen the account." She also told me that I had better start thinking about paying off this balance before it goes to collection. When I asked for a number to call the main office she laughed at me and told me "that there was no number, only a fax and I would never get through, this was the end of the line" and hung up. Are you KIDDING me? I have never, ever, ever had any experience like this.
