Wellington Burke: An update on the Wellington-Burke story: Robert Zazula of WB contacted me, and made it sound as if WB was a recruiter for positions to which I had applied. He said that they someitmes advertised some of "their" exclusive positions on other sites.

I was a little suspicious when I asked for specifics on which ones (as I am in a rather specialized field). He assured me that they had "a number" of positions where I would be a good fit. I agreed to meet him for an appointment. I contacted his assistant to set up a time, and also asked her to confirm which positions he would discuss with me, so that I could be prepared.

She responded by e-mail with the appointment time, but no job specifics. I e-mailed again requesting the same info, no response. I always research a recruiter or company before I interview. I checked their web page and found it long on slickness and short on content.

I also noticed that there was a small note saying that there was a fee for their services. I was particularly curious in this regard, since (1) Robert Zazula did not mention any cost when I spoke with him; and (2) I have been contacted by several legitimate recruiters who are eager to find a position for me, as it will mean a hefty commission for them.

The whole thing with Wellington Burke started to smell — why would they charge candidates a fee, especially executives, when they stood to make quite a bit on the "finder's fee" paid by their client for the placement? Were they "double-dipping"?

In checking these folks out, I came across your website. It turns out that Mr. Z was also affiliated with their predecessor scam firm, Job Finders. Needless to say, I e-mailed Wellington-Burke a third time to say I would not be able to keep the appointment. I doubt they will call me to reschedule ;-).

Keep getting your good word out — it can become frustrating and depressing sometimes during a job search. But it is going to be even more depressing if a job-seeker is separated from the money he or she needs to make ends meet while searching. These scammers are the same kind of vultures who prey on people during any kind of crisis — the worst kind!

I will suggest to some of the job boards to link to your site — it's a public service about which they should let people know.
