Allows individuals open accounts in your name without ever checking to see if it is really you screwed others too Not sure

It was and I had just been contacted by a Detective from a local police department that was conducting an investigation into fraud. I was told that I may have been targeted. I did some checking and sure enough, I had an account from Gateway in my name 120 days overdue.

He had taken my social security number, name, and other information and used it to open an account through Hurley State Bank. The real shock comes when, after an investigation by Gateway, the results showed that the account contained only one reference to me, my name, everything else on the account was the individual's. My address was wrong, and even my birthdate was wrong.

How could this not be noticed? Another problem arose, what about my credit? I went through over a year of hell to get my credit back to normal, finally I contacted Gateway and they conducted their investigation and found that it had been opened without my knowledge. It was closed, credit bureaus were told to clear my name.

I now have flags all over my credit account that tell everyone that I am a fraud victim and that tells them that I don't want anything to do with that individual. I have yet to gain back the integrity that my credit once had.

There are others like me who have been taken for a ride by the same perpetrator. He still roams free, and we still have problems. Lately I have been trying to contact Hurley State Bank to retrieve the documents to prove my case that it was their fault that we all got screwed, I have been unsuccessful.

Right now I am trying to get all information, from the time the account was opened, to the investigation, to the closing, and the results of the said investigation. This, UNSUCCESSFUL!
