RIPOFF I was contacted by the CRC of Southern California to purchase magazines Would not let me cancel subscription

On 20 June 05 I received a phone call from the Community Reading Club of Southern Californa to order some magazines. I was to order six magazines for $16.64 for 29 months for a total of 482.56. After receiving the magazines for six months (22 Dec 05) I decided to cancel the subscription. I wanted to cancel the magazines one because I do not read them and two they have not come now for two months. When I called the company (888-875-3259) to cancel the subsciption they told me I had to cancel with in 30 days of the subscription and that if I quit paying the account would go into collections and I could have to pay double even triple the amount.

I explained to the operator, that was never said to me. She then told me that I had to stay with the company for 29 months and ask if I would like to listen to the recording. I listen to the recording (which at the time sounded good deal) which they tell you, you have to stay for 29 months. When I specifically ask them what if I wanted to cancel the subsciption the Operator never answered the question and rushed you in to saying that I would stay with the company for 29 months. So still the account is not canceled due to the fact that I don't want in collections, but would still like to cancel the account. What boggles my mind is if I had a subscription with GQ I gaurantee that I could cancel at anytime and not have to pay
