Ripoff and rudeness on the phone

I received a letter in the mail from this company on October 12. It said I owed them $240. I called the number because I couldn't figure out what I owed $240 for. I pay all my bills monthly and don't even carry credit card debt. They told me over the phone it was for a debt in 1993 when I was living in Dallas. They did have my address from when I lived there. When I started asking questions, however, they became extremely defensive and wouldn't provide answers... Then, basically told me I was a jerk for not paying my debts. They said it was for cable when I lived there. I wanted to know the cable company and more info and they got downright belligerent. I ended up hanging up on them and got suspicious so looked them up on line and found out about their scam. I also notice that nothing has hit my credit report. I think they just hope people pay them without calling. What a ripoff.
